Royals Volleyball Starts Season Off With a Win

This past weekend the Lake Region State College Royals Volleyball team traveled down to Wilmar, MN to compete. They started off the season the right way with a 3 set to 0 victory over Riverland CC on Friday night. They won comfortably in the first set 25-17, then went back and forth to take two more difficult sets 28-26 & 25-22 for the win.

The next match came against a quality Central Lakes opponent and the Royals hung tough in the first set falling 25-22. The next 2 sets were all Central Lakes as they defeated the Royals 25-16 & 25-17. Their first game Saturday had them matched up against Ellsworth CC and they took the first set 25-16. However, the Royals couldn't keep the momentum going and lost in the final 3 sets to lose the match 3-1. The final game of the weekend came against a talented Ridgewater CC team who defeated the Royals in 3 straight sets, 25-16, 25-17 & 25-15.

The team ended the weekend with a record of 1-3 with Head Coach Brigitte Greywater saying, "We played good volleyball all weekend, we just had a few too many communication breakdowns," she went on to say that, "We just need to let that inner beast take over when it comes to crunch time and close out sets."

It is a big week ahead for the Royals as they are at Jamestown JV on Tuesday night with a start time of 7pm. They will then head down to Norfolk, NE to participate in the Northeast CC Volleyball Tournament. They play Friday vs. Northeast at 1pm & Kirkwood at 5pm then again on Saturday vs. Iowa Lakes at 9am & Southeast at 1pm. Check for updates on twitter @LRSCRoyals & on @LRSCVolleyball.
