Lake Region State College graduate Hanna Gary was named a finalist for NDAPSSA, North Dakota Associated Press Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association, Female Athlete of the Year for 2017. Hanna was a key component to our success this season. She was a solid hitter throughout the year and only seemed to improve. On the mound she had her best season of her two years here. She adopted an attacking mentality and had more confidence in her secondary pitches and it showed as she was undefeated for the first time in her collegiate career. Hanna was named MonDak All-Conference, All-Region XIII, and Region XIII Most Valuable Player this past year.

Head Coach Ben Morris said, "Hanna is one of those players that you are lucky to get a chance to coach. She adopted the new attacking philosophy that I brought in this year and she excelled in every facet of the game. We were never out of a game with Hanna on the mound. There were times where it would have been easy for her to give up on the mound, but she never gave up and continued to attack hitters. Hanna was our cleanup hitter and always seemed to come through at the plate when there were runners on and kept the momentum on our side for most of the season. Nationally Hanna was ranked 16th in the nation for batting average, 23rd in on base percentage, and 5th in slugging percentage. We want to wish Hanna the best of luck as she continues her playing career at the 4-year level. She hasn't chosen where she will attend yet, but whichever she chooses that school is going to be getting a hard working student athlete that has also grown into an outstanding person."
