Softball Continues Win Streak, Sweeps Dawson
The Lake Region State College Lady Royals Softball team continued it's winning ways on Saturday getting the two game sweep against MonDak rival Dawson Community College.
Dawson Community College 4/22/17
Game 1: vs. Dawson Community College 5 – 3 Win
Hanna Gary (11-0) 9 Strike Outs
Game one started out as a tough defensive battle between the top two teams in the MonDak Conference. Hanna Gary got the nod on the mound and she continued her dominance that she has had all season long. She worked ahead of hitters and forced them to become defensive and swing at things that they normally wouldn't. After a quick first inning defensively the Royals were able to manufacture their first run behind a nice sacrifice from Jade Ledochowski. Head Coach Ben Morris said, "We haven't really needed to play much small ball this year, but in order to win these tough end of the season matchup's every run early can make the difference." That was the case throughout game one. The Royals allowed a run in the third and fifth inning but came right out and put two more up in the bottom half of those innings to keep their lead. This was a close hard fought game, but the Lady Royals came out on top of game one with a 5-3 win.
Outstanding performance:
Hanna Gary: she hit 1.000, scored 1 run, had 4 RBI's and hit one home run. She also logged 7 innings pitched had 9 strike outs and only allowed 3 runs to collect her 11th win of the season
Game 2: vs. Dawson Community College 9 – 1 Win
Amber Stewart (6-2) 8 Strike Outs
The second game of the double header started out exactly like the first one of the day. Amber continued to do what she has done all year and didn't let the Dawson hitters intimidate her on her way to an eight strike out performance and logging her 6th victory this season. Offensively the Lady Royals kept the pressure on the DCC defense by hitting balls hard to gaps and playing small ball when they needed to. The run production was steady and increased as the game went on. Tai Yamamoto struck again for a two run home run to keep the momentum going for the home team and they never looked back. The final LRSC 9 DCC 1.
Outstanding performance:
Tai Yamamoto: she hit .667, scored 1 run, had 4 RBI's, and one timely Home Run to lead the Royals
Head Coach Ben Morris said, "Overall we played well in all facets of the game and the momentum never switched from our favor during this double header. We made the plays that came to us in the field and even a couple fantastic diving plays by the left side of the infield. Pitching we are rolling right now and it is a great sign heading into the final warm-up stretch for the Regional Tournament in two weeks."
