The Lake Region State College Lady Royals softball team completed the home sweep of Bismarck State College yesterday.
Bismarck State College 4/19/17
Game 1: vs Bismarck State College 12 – 4 Win
Hanna Gary (10-0) 6 Strike Outs
Hanna Gary got the start in game one and she picked right up where she has been all season racking up her tenth win to remain unbeaten. She worked well attacking the BSC hitter right when they entered the box and kept that momentum throughout the game. Offensively, it was a slow start to the contest for the Royals only scoring two runs through the first four innings. In the top of the fifth Bismarck was able to convert on a Royals miscue and hit a three run home run to take the lead 4-2. Head Coach Ben Morris said, "I was happy to see the home run not effect Hanna. After it she was able to keep doing what she does best and went right back to attacking the hitters." In the bottom of the fifth inning the bats came alive for the home team and they were able to score 6 runs to take an 8-4 lead going into the sixth inning. It was all LRSC from there and they finished off BSC by the final of 12-4. Coach Morris, "It took a while for us to get our bats going and wake up defensively. That has been an issue these past couple of weeks. We can't afford to keep doing this in the contests that we have coming up. We need to have an attacking mentality right out of the gate in order to put pressure on the opposition and not let them hang around."
Outstanding Performance:
Hanna Gary: she hit .333, scored 2 Runs, had 1 RBI, and 1 walk also had 6.0 Innings Pitched and recorded 6 Strike Outs
Game 2: vs. Bismarck State College 16 – 1 Win
Amber Stewart (5-2) 10 Strike Outs
The momentum from game one carried right into game two in all facets of the game. Offensively the Royals were back to their old ways of attacking the pitches through the zone. The home team was able to race out to a 13-1 lead after three innings of play behind Tai Yamamoto's grand slam. That gave Amber Stewart all the confidence that she needed to bring home another victory and the Royals cruised the rest of the contest. Head Coach Ben Morris said, "Amber works well with the lead and knows just how to attack hitters throughout the game. She has done this in every game that she has started this year and today was no different as she notched a ten strike out performance. We hit the ball well today and didn't let our lead effect our approaches at the plate which was an important aspect that I wanted to get through to the girls. We still need to work every at bat and every pitch. We can't afford to take one off this late in the season."
Outstanding Performance:
Tai Yamamoto: she hit 1.000, scored 2 Runs, had 4 RBI's, and 1 Grand Slam
Head Coach Ben Morris, "This was a good mini-series for us. We were able to come out and take care of business and keep the momentum rolling into this weekend's big showdown against Dawson Community College. We need to be able to start games quicker at the beginning of double headers to keep ourselves in the game against future good teams. We were aggressive on the base paths, the plate, pitching, and defensively this was an all-around good performance by all of the girls today."
