Men's basketball opens up season 2-1
The Lake Region State College Men's Basketball team opened up their season at the Buster Gillis MonDak Tipoff in New Town, ND and went 2-1 on the weekend.
The Royals had a tough opening night where they lost to eventual champs Dawson CC 102-69. Head Coach Jared Marshall said, "We just didn't handle their pressure from the jump and turned the ball over too many times."
The Royals would battle back after a disappointing opening night to defeat Bismarck State College 69-61 and Williston State College 89-75.
Marshall continued, "I thought we showed real toughness in the BSC game. Short turnaround after a late game that didn't finish until 11pm. Then to be up and playing at 10am the next morning is no easy task. I thought we rose to the occasion and found a way to win. In the Dawson game, I thought we really started to find our identity a little more. We pounded the ball inside and started to find some defensive intensity."
The returners led the way for the Royals. Sophomore Blessed Barhayiga was LRSC's leading rebounded & scorer all weekend. He recorded 20+ points in 2 games. Harrison Raynor and Noah Bonick were consist on the perimeter all weekend. While new comer Ginuwine Tropnas recorded a double double Sunday.
The Royals are in action next on Sunday at home vs. Rainy River. 3pm tip at the sportscenter.
