The Lake Region State College Men's and Women's basketball teams will resume MonDak action Wednesday night at the sportscenter.
The Lady Royals will take the court for the first time since they returned from their road trip from Arizona over Christmas break. LRSC, now 5-10 on the season, played four games down in Arizona including two against D2 NJCAA ranked programs. The first time through Conference play the Lady Royals went 3-4 against MonDak foes. Wednesday night, they will have to be at their best despite being a little short handed due to injuries. BSC is sitting second overall in the league and defeated Lake Region in their previous matchup 74-57 on the road in Bismarck on November 30th.
Interim Head Coach Colden Hutton said this to say, "We are excited to get back into MonDak play this week. It's a big week against BSC on Wednesday and Williston Sunday. Both are home games, so you always want to go out and protect your home court. As a team, we are battling some injuries so we need some players to step up and make some plays during this stretch until we can get fully healthy. I like where we are at as a team, we have been playing tough defense over the last few games and that needs to continue as we head into the second half of the season."
On the men's side, the Royals have been on break since their last games on December 10th & 11th down in Ottumwa, IA where they fell to D1 NJCAA ranked Indian Hills and beat Missouri State University - West Plains. LRSC is 10-5 on the season with 3 of those losses coming to ranked teams. They sit at 5-2 in the conference, one game behind the league leaders NDSCS & Dawson who have 1 conference loss each. The Royals opened up the MonDak Pre-Conference Tournament in New Town with a 74-63 win over BSC on November 5th.
Head Coach Jared Marshall had this to say, "The Royals are right back in the action Wednesday night versus BSC! Hopefully, we can come out and shake off the rust from Christmas break quickly and get back into a groove on both ends of the floor. These games at home are important and you need to do everything you can to protect the home floor. I am looking for us to rely on our toughness and defense early until we can back into the groove on offense. A lot of opportunity for us as a team, we are right in the thick of it and have a chance to compete with the top teams in the MonDak. I am excited for the next two months!"
Game times on Wednesday are 6:30pm & 8:30pm at the Devils Lake Sportscenter. Tailgate will be served before the game, soup and sandwiches, sponsored by LRSC Student Services.
