Royals Basketball Begins Season with an Impressive Start
In the first week of play for the Royals’ basketball season, both teams jumped to a great start and ended the week with the MonDak Tournament in New Town.

In the first week of play for the Royals' basketball season, both teams jumped to a great start and ended the week with the MonDak Tournament in New Town.
Both men's and women's teams started the season with victories at home against the University of Jamestown JV.
After numerous lead changes and a 7 point deficit at halftime, the Lady Royals bounced back from behind for a 61-60 win against the Jimmies. Top scorers were Marta Lopez with 15, Tiziana Huici with 12 and Josie Brodina with 11. Lopez also led the Royals with 11 rebounds and 8 assists.
"The women battled back and forth and came out with the W," said LRSC Athletic Director Jared Marshall.
The Lake Region men won 77-63 and shot 42 percent from the field and 70 percent from the free throw line. Clarence Daniels led the Royals with 27 points, 10 rebounds, 4 steals, and 2 assists. Anthony Davis had 14 points and Carson Henningsgard added 11. Henningsgard added 6 assists and 4 rebounds. D'Sean Larkins and Ben Hoverson each recorded 6 rebounds with Djordje Mitrovic adding another 5.
"It was great to see the teams come out for the first home game ready to win," Head Men's Basketball Coach Jared Marshall said.
Buster Gilliss MonDak Basketball Tournament
Both men's and women's teams headed west to New Town November 5, 6, and 7 for the preseason MonDak Tournament. The Lady Royals took on Dawson Community College in the first round and lost 73-65. Tiziana Huici and Laura Ribo came off the bench to lead the Lady Royals. Huici had 24 points and Ribo, 12. Lopez added another 11 points.
In their second tournament game November 6, the Lady Royals labored to find the basket and speed and couldn't catch up to DCB who kept a solid lead with a final score of 62-45. Huici led the Lady Royals with 17 points.
"The women struggled to find their footing in the first two games but got it together for the last game," Marshall said. The women played Miles City Community College and came away with a 65-49 victory to close out the tournament.
With a 2-2 record the Lady Royals are looking forward to their next games and working out some of the issues on the court into a winning style.
The men opened up the MonDak Tournament against Bismarck State College. A strong start and steady game resulted in a 74-63 victory. Clarence Daniels led the Royals with 19 points and 8 rebounds. James Sommer added another 13 points and Ben Hoverson, 10.
The second game was a battle with LRSC staying in step with NDSCS until the Wildcats pulled away, winning 74-69. Leading the Royals was Anthony Davis with 28 points with Clarence Daniels adding another 16. D'Sean Larkins led with 6 rebounds.
The Royals rebounded in game three with a 74-60 victory over Williston State College to bring home another W and move their record to 3-1. Leading in scoring was Clarence Daniels with 24, James Sommer with 15, and Anthony Davis with 11. Daniels added another 13 rebounds.
"We had a solid tournament and know what areas we need to address to only get stronger throughout the season," Marshall said.
Both teams will be home on Tuesday night vs. NCTC 5:30pm & 7:30pm at the sportscenter.
