Royals Swept by Tetons

The Lake Region State College Lady Royals Baseball team played a four game series over two days against the Williston State College Tetons.

All four games were played in Williston, ND on April 13th & April 14th, 2019.

Game 1:

Lake Region State College Royals fell behind early and could not come back in a 14-3 loss to Williston State College on Saturday. Williston State College scored on a single in the first inning. The Lake Region State College Royals struggled to contain the high-powered offense of Williston State College, giving up 14 runs. Williston State College got things moving in the first inning scoring two runs. Williston State College scored four runs in the fifth inning. Liam Sommer took the loss for Lake Region State College Royals. He surrendered 14 runs on ten hits over four innings, striking out seven. Taylor Musgrave went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Lake Region State College Royals in hits. Williston State College tallied 11 hits on the day.

Game 2:

Both teams were strong on the mound on Saturday, but Williston State College was just a little bit stronger at the plate in a victory over Lake Region State College Royals on Saturday. Blake Patterson started the game for Lake Region State College Royals and recorded 20 outs. A single by Noah Widmer in the second inning was positive for Lake Region State College Royals. Williston State's pitcher went seven innings, allowing zero runs on three hits, striking out three and walking one. Patterson took the loss for Lake Region State College Royals. He surrendered three runs on five hits over six and two-thirds innings, striking out eight. Brody Stark, Widmer, and Robert Nickell each collected one hit to lead Lake Region State College Royals. Williston State College totaled five hits in the game.

Game 3:

Lake Region State College Royals watched the game slip away early and could not recover in a 12-2 loss to Williston State College on Sunday. Williston State College scored two in the first inning. The Lake Region State College Royals struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Williston State College, giving up 12 runs. Williston State College scored four runs in the fifth inning. Williston State College pitcher went five innings, allowing two runs on four hits, striking out six and walking one. Carson Heroux took the loss for Lake Region State College Royals. He surrendered eight runs on six hits over two and a third innings, striking out two. Adrian Rodriguez, James Sampson-keck, Kyler Halverson, and Robert Nickell each collected one hit to lead Lake Region State College Royals.

Game 4:

Lake Region State College Royals fell behind early and could not come back in a 9-0 loss to Williston State College on Sunday. The Lake Region State College Royals struggled to contain the high-powered offense of Williston State College, giving up nine runs. A double by Taylor Musgrave in the second inning was a positive for Lake Region State College Royals. The Williston pitcher surrendered zero runs on four hits over seven innings, striking out eight. Rylie Goodwin took the loss for Lake Region State College Royals. He lasted four and two-thirds innings, allowing 11 hits and 9 runs while striking out five. Brody Stark, Tarick Morris, Musgrave, and Kyler Halverson each managed one hit to lead Lake Region State College Royals.

Head Coach Kyal Williams had this to say about the games, "It was a tough weekend from the team, just could not get rolling from game one. Our bats never got warmed up and the opportunities we had to put pressure on Williston were missed out on. We will learn from these games and I know the team has a burning desire to improve from this weekend. We have 3 weekends left and still a lot of baseball to be played!"
