Coming down to the last games of the season, it is always tough when you get the 5th seed in a tournament to come from last to first. But the Royals had belief and that come through. The first game of the tournament was against Bottineau. It was a seesaw battle all game going back a forth with hits and runs. It was a great 9 inning game, with both side never giving up and finding a way to fight back. The Royals played their hearts out from the first pitch to the last. Head Coach Kyal Williams said, "It was one of the best all round games they boys have played all year". Bryce Hunt, Bridger Urban and Jonathan Lund showed tremendous control and poise on the mound to keep the Royals in the game. Timely hitting and great team efforts on the bases and at the plate gave the Royals the edge to take the first win of the tournament. 13-11!
The Royals next game was against Williston State, it was another game for the year. Jared Gesell on the mound really showed his class shutting down a very talented team from 4 innings. Giving the Royals every opportunity to put runs on the scoreboard. However, the game starting to slip away as Williston started to score runs freely. 10-2 down heading into the top of 6 Royals dug deep and really showed their spirit, scoring 4 in the 6th and 3 in the 7th to bring the lead back to 1. But Williston struck again and put the final nail in our coffin scoring 7 in the bottom of the 8th to take the game. With the final being 13-11 in favor of the Tetons.
Coming off a tough loss to a very talented team, especially getting so close to taking a win the Royals took on Dawson Community College. Another game that both team fought hard for every hit and run. Losing two of our starters that day with Cesar Bernal hurting his hamstring in the game before and Ryan Alain shoulder putting him on the bench, Bryce Hunt took the ball with no days' rest. His determination to help the Royals for as long as he could giving 3 amazing innings. Bridger Urban then took to the mound after throwing the game before, tied and tight, giving the Royals security on the mound. The Royals fought for every hit and run that game coming in just short scoring 5 runs to Dawson's 7.
Head Coach Kyal Williams said, "It was amazing to see this team fight through every single game scoring late runs to give us the best opportunity in every game. Tremendous effort from everybody on this team, and could not be more proud of what they achieved in the conference tournament!"
