Royals Earn Split with Iowa State Cyclones
The Royals' Women's Hockey team had their first big road trip of the year to Ames, Iowa to face off against Iowa State University on October 21st and 22nd.
The Royals faced off against an Iowa State team that competed in the National Tournament last spring in Boston, Massachusetts. The Royals were poised and ready to compete with a top tier program.
Both teams came out ready to play on Saturday skating to a 0-0 draw after one period of play. The Royals had heavy pressure out shooting the Cyclones 18-8 during the 20-minute period. Freshmen goaltender Anika Moroz was again, lights out.
Period 2 was a fast paced 20 minutes with both teams not giving an inch. The Royals stuck with their systems and found the net around the midway point of the period when forward Ashton Fogelman found the back of the net off of a feed from captain Vivianna Kraft. This was the lone goal of the period.
The 3rd period of the contest was like the others, back and forth with constant Royals pressure. Freshmen forward Ella Holkesvig scored her first goal of her college career off a feed from Veronica Asquith putting the Royals on top 2-0 finishing the game.
Freshmen Goaltender Anika Moroz earned her first career college shutout stopping all 26 shots.
The Royals outshot the Cyclones 50-26 in dominating fashion!
The Royals are off until November 1st when they travel to Dakota College of Bottineau to play at 5:00 pm.
