Royals Make History to Start Conference Play
The Royals women's basketball team started off conference play by making history. The Royals are the first women's basketball team in school history to go 2-0 on their conference trip to Montana defeating both Dawson Community College and Miles Community College in the same weekend!
On Sunday, the Royals took on Dawson at the Toepke Center in Glendive, Montana. The Royals started off slow in the first quarter as with 11 TOs in the first half that brought the Royals into halftime down one. The Royals came out of half clicking on all cylinders and outscored the Bucs by 12. The Royals kept that lead for the entire 4th quarter and won by a score of 81-71.
Arden Faulkner led the Royals in scoring 23 Points shooting 4-8 from 3 and 7-14 from the field. Nicole Lillard steps up huge in the win filling the stat sheet with 20 Points, 9 Rebounds, 6 Assists, 2 Steals, and 2 blocks.
The Royals then headed south to Miles City in a matchup with Miles Community College. The Royals once again started off slow as they did not score a field goal for the first 5:25 of the game. The Royals clawed back to go into halftime with an 8-point lead. The Royals came out of halftime with a different energy like they did the night before and outscored the Pioneers by 12 in the third quarter going on a 15 – 1 run to end the 3rd. The Royals held on to the lead and won by a score of 83 – 59.
Kiara Holweger led the Royals with 19 Points and 8 Rebounds. Arden Faulkner continued her hot streak by chipping in 16 points, as well as Sydney Schwabe scoring 14 points for the Royals.
The Royals look to keep their undefeated conference record alive with a home stand this upcoming weekend with Bottineau on Sunday January 12th at 1 PM and Williston St. on Monday January 13th at 6:30 PM.
