Royals Basketball Looks to Continue Momentum into Second Semester
The Lake Region State College Royals will be coming off their break with an 8-8 overall record. The Royals went 2-2 over their final four games before ending non-conference play. The two losses were to currently ranked #1 Snow College and #9 Indian Hills.
Throughout non-conference play, the Royals offense has shown to be the strength of the team. They are averaging just shy of 88 points per game, which is ranked 32nd in the nation. The Royals are top 50 in the country in 12 different statistical categories as of 12/31/24. LRSC has 4 players averaging double figures. Bronson Chambers and Poet Davis each average 14.5ppg. Ginuwine Tropnas is averaging 12.9ppg, he is also the leading rebounder for the Royals at 8.3 and averages almost 2 blocks per game. Akok Ajou is the fourth Lake Region player averaging double figures at 12.4ppg.
Head Coach Jared Marshall had this to say about his team, "I thought we did a good job challenging ourselves in non-conference play. We traveled to Williston, Minnesota, Iowa and Wyoming to play some tough competition. To finish the non-conference schedule we played two top 10 teams. Indian Hills was #5 at the time when we played them and the game was close. We lost by 11 but they had an 11-0 run to finish the first half and that proved to be the difference. The biggest area for us is our consistency. We are an up and down team at times and if we can just be more consistent, I think that is going to help us. I really liked to see our growth in areas like rebounding and defense throughout non-conference play. If we continue to get better in those areas, become a more consistent team overall, I think we can be very competitive in conference play."
The Royals open up MonDak Conference play by heading out to Montana. They will play Sunday versus Dawson CC who is 14-2 on the year and currently receiving votes in the latest NJCAA poll. They will then travel to Miles City to take on the Pioneers who are 8-7 and defeated the Royals earlier in the season 104-98.
