Royals start the season 3-1
The Royals Volleyball team opened their season with the Mystic Invite at Bismarck State College.
The Royals Volleyball team opened their season with the Mystic Invite at Bismarck State College. The tournament was a good test for the Royals as it featured some very strong teams throughout the region. The Royals played tough on Friday to open the season; they dropped the first match to #18 ranked Bismarck State College in three tight sets, then came out firing against a very strong Dawson Community College team, and won the match 3-2.
On Saturday, the Royals opened with the Division III #6 ranked team, M-State Fergus Falls, and won the match 3-0, before ending the tournament by playing a strong Jamestown JV team, winning that match 3-0 as well. This team has a strong mix of experienced players and newcomers who have been working hard to open the season and becoming comfortable playing with each other.
Waddell on the weekend: “I’m really happy with how the team played. The first matches of the season are always tough; you never know how well the teams will gel, and the mistakes that are made early can affect the overall team chemistry. This team took their mistakes in stride, and they worked together and fought this weekend to play some very good volleyball. All of the members of the team contributed in helping us prepare for this season, and we have a lot of talent on this year’s squad. I have been particularly impressed with how well our five sophomores have worked to welcome the newcomers and help them get acclimated to the fast-paced college game. We have a lot to look forward to for this season.”
Next up for the Royals will be our home opener on Tuesday, August 22nd against Trinity Bible College before traveling to Bottineau to take on conference-rival Dakota College at Bottineau. They will then travel to Casper, Wyoming to play in a Division I tournament against some more heavy competition August 25th and 26th.
