The LRSC Royals volleyball team had two players named to the Mon-Dak All-Conference team. Desidy Schwanke was named to the First Team All-Conference, and Lindsey Nyhagen was named Second Team.
Desidy Schwanke is a 6 rotation outside hitter for the Royals. She led the conference in kills with 463, kills per set with 3.89, and was 16th in the conference in hitting percentage, hitting .189. She also led the conference in overall points with 533, and led the conference in points per set with 4.5. Defensively, she was 9th in the conference in digs with 403, and 15th in total blocks with 45. Finally, she tied for 3rd in the conference for total service aces with 44, and 4th in aces per set with .37. “Desidy played multiple positions for the Royals throughout her career. She primarily played middle blocker throughout her freshman season, but this year, she started out playing opposite. Towards the middle of the season, she made the transition to hit outside hitter for us, and she has shined in every position that she has played. In all of my years of coaching, I have never coached a player who is as versatile as Desidy. She has such a high level of skill in every area of the game and is a big part of the success of Royals volleyball over the past two seasons,” Coach Waddell said of Desidy.
Lindsey Nyhagen is a 5-1 setter for the Royals. This season she led the conference in total assists with 1045, and was third in the conference for assists per set with 8.78. She was also the top server in the conference with 73 service aces, and led the conference in service aces per set with .61. Defensively, she was 11th in the conference in digs with 362 and 17th in digs per set with 3.04. “Lindsey played three rotations for the Royals during her freshman season, but this year, she was called to control our offense full time. She elevated her game so much from her freshman to sophomore season, not just in her setting abilities, but her defense, and her hitting improved markedly. She makes very good decisions as a setter, and she pushed herself to read the defense in a way that helped our team to find success this season. She is a fearless setter that makes a very difficult job look very easy.”
“Both Desidy and Lindsey put in countless hours in the off-season to make huge improvements, and they have left huge shoes to fill for next season. I’m excited to see what the next chapter has in store for both of these players in their volleyball careers.”
