Softball Splits on the Road vs. DCB
The Royals softball team went to Bottineau to play Dakota College at Bottineau today, splitting the double header in wild and windy games.
The Royals softball team went to Bottineau to play Dakota College at Bottineau today, splitting the double header in wild and windy games. The Royals won the first game by the score of 32 to 18 but dropped the second game 14 to 15. Both games saw the losing team blow a large lead early.
In the first game the Royals got on the board early scoring one run. Emma Gary scored when Mackenzie Sansom hit into a fielder's choice. In the bottom of the inning, the Lumberjacks from Bottineau jumped on pitcher Mackenzie Sansom with 4 consecutive hits followed by an error. In the inning, they scored 7 off of 5 hits, one was a homerun by Marisol Rodriguez. The second inning saw the Royals bounce back scoring 5 to cut the lead to 1 but in the bottom half of the inning, Dakota College scored 2 to extend its lead to 3. The next three innings saw the Royals score 3 in the third, 3 in the fourth, and 6 in the fifth to lead 18 to 15. It was then that the Royals erupted scoring 14 runs in the 6th inning sending 17 batters to the plate. Kassi Jones relieved Sansom pitching the final two innings picking up the win. For the game, Hanna Gary was 6 for 6, one walk, 4 runs scored, 8 RBI's, 3 doubles, and 1 home run. Courtney fines was 3 for 6 with a double. Haunani Morton was 3 for 4 with a double. Emma Gary was 2 for 3 with 5 runs, one walk, 3 hit by pitch and 3 RBI's. Mackenzie Sansom was 2 for 6 with a double. Renae Fafard was 1 for 2. Kristen Hutto was 2 for 2 with 2 runs scored. Jade Ledochowski was 2 for 3 with 3 runs scored. Jaimie Shaw and Kiahna Chumola each had a hit. The Royals also committed 5 errors in the field.
The second game started out well for the Royals where they scored one run in the first and six runs in the third taking a 7 to 0 lead into the fourth. The Jacks scored 3 in 4th then 4 in the 5th to tie the game. The Royals responded in the 6th scoring 5. Mackenzie Sansom, Jaimie Shaw, and Alaina Mckinnon scored from a by Jade Ledochowski and a double by Haunani Morton. Morton scored on a wild pitch. The Jacks responded scoring 5 runs in the bottom of the sixth off of pitcher Alaina Mckinnon and relief pitcher Rebekah Stoe to tie the game. In the 7th inning the Royals scored 2 but could not hold the Jacks who scored 3 in the bottom of the 7th to win the game. The Royals committed 3 errors for the game, had 20 hits and only one strike out. Courtney Fines, Mackenzie Sansom, and Jaimie Shaw had 3 hits in the game. Emma Gary, Kristen Hutto, Alaina Mckinnon, and Jade Ledowchowski each had 2. Haunani Morton, Emma Gary, Jaimie Shaw, and Alaina Mckinnon had doubles.
Next action for the Royals softball team will be Thursday April 14th at home versus the JV of the University of Jamestown. They will travel to Glendive MT Saturday (16th) and Sunday (17th) to take on Dawson Community College.
