The Royals hit the road to Williston, ND for the opening round of the Region XIII Tournament.
Riding a six game losing streak and fighting history, where the program had not won a post season game in almost ten years, the Royals were determined when they took the court Thursday night versus Miles CC in the Region XIII Quarterfinals. With the Pioneers clinging to a one point lead at half, the Royals upped their game in the second. Led by a breakout performance from Lamarr Wood, 26pts 10rebs, and a massive effort from Dalton Prouty off the bench, 16pts 3-6 3FG, LRSC would take command in the second. Outscoring Miles 44-37 in the 2nd, to take a 80-74 win over Miles CC. Sealing their first post season victory in almost a decade.
Next up for the Royals was the #1 seeded Williston State Tetons. Another slow start for the Royals found them down at half 39-28. Lake Region was not ready to go down without a fight. In the second, they would come storming back cutting the Teton lead to two points multiple times and one once. Despite their best efforts they could not get over the hump and came up short 87-79. TJ Mickelson would lead the Royals by getting into the paint time and again with 23pts 8rebs 5ast. Jordan Lynn had 16pts 8rebs, Lamarr Wood 15pts 6rebs and Zac Olson 13pts.
Some Royals were recognized to the MonDak All Conference Team, Lamarr Wood would get 1st team and Jordan Lynn would get 2nd team.
Head Coach Jared Marshall said afterwards, "I want to say thank you to our players, fans and supporters for another great year of Royals basketball. I am very proud of our team and my sophomores. Their legacy will not only be one of winning basketball games but one of community service,. This group represented the program in the right way on the court, off the court and in the classroom. Their contributions will never be forgotten. A big thank you to them."
The Royals season ends with a 19-14 record.
