The Lake Region State College men's basketball team lost in the first round of the Region 13 basketball tournament, ending its season at 19-12. The Royals, seeded No. 5, lost at No. 4 Bismarck State College 98-90.
AJ Nywesh scored 31 points, dished out nine assists and grabbed six rebounds for LRSC. Fellow sophomores Ryan Clark and Tom Kubank both added 11 points. Dawson Peterson scored five points while recording nine rebounds.
"Another big night from AJ," Royals head coach Jared Marshall said. "He and the rest of the sophomores did everything they could to keep us in it."
Ben Rennie provided 19 points for the Royals.
"Ben Rennie was giving us some really good minutes," Marshall said. "He was able to knock down some big 3-pointers versus the zone."
The loss wraps up Marshall's first season as head coach for the Royals and the LRSC careers of four sophomores.
"It didn't end the way we wanted at all but this team will always be special to me," Marshall said. "This was my first team. I'll never forget them. I appreciate all they did for me."
