Nothing seems to come easy for the Lake Region State College men's basketball team, but the final score is all that matters. The Royals found a way to win again, this one on the road Monday at Dakota College at Bottineau in a 101-99 overtime victory.
LRSC improves to 18-5 and 3-2 in the Mon-Dak Conference.
"Another close one tonight," Royals head coach Jared Marshall said. "If we are close at the end of the game I have every confidence we are going to pull it out. Our guys have been through so many of these at this point, they can handle anything."
Ryan Clark had a big night with 34 points and 19 rebounds. AJ Nywesh also added a double-double with 20 points and 10 assists.
"Ryan Clark with a monster game tonight," Marshall said. "They really put focus on AJ tonight trying to take him out so we went to Ryan again and again. He really came through for us."
Ben Rennie scored 17 points and Tom Kubank tallied 13. Dawson Peterson had a solid showing of nine points and 12 rebounds.
The Royals led 49-48 at halftime, but the Lumberjacks responded with a 43-42 edge in the second half to force overtime. LRSC did enough in overtime to win 101-99.
"I wasn't happy how we handled the ball down the stretch and turned it over," Marshall said. "We are usually so good taking care of the ball. We only average 13 on the year but tonight DCB sped us up and made us make uncharacteristic mistakes."
The Royals take on Bismarck State College on Thursday.
