Game 1vs. Bismarck State College
After a tough spring schedule, the Royals MonDak conference season started with a match up against Bismarck State College. The Royals wasted no time and came out of the gate hot scoring 7 runs in the top of the 1st. With timely hitting and team batting helped them put score up from the start. The Bismarck State offense kept fighting, scoring 2 in the first and second and adding one in the 3rd to get back in the game. The Royals struggled after the 1st, couldn't get hits with runners in scoring position and left many guys stranded on base. The momentum shifted and BSC found their stroke and scored 19 runs in the bottom of the 4th. A few errors and drop of focus could not stop the bleeding giving game 1 to Bismarck State College, losing 24-7. Landyn Swenson, Jon Lund and Jared Gesell all picking up multiple hits with Cesar Bernal and Bryce Hunt getting on the board.
Game 2vs. Bismarck State College
It is always a tough task coming out for the second game when you get dealt a loss as the Royals did, but with amazing grit and credit to the players they didnt let that get to them. The Royals came out hard and scored 2 in the 1st and 3 in the 2nd. The team had great energy throughout the game keeping things upbeat and talking. The Royals were able to keep the Mystics off the board until the 6th inning. Bryce Hunt had one of his best game of the year pitching 6 innings of 1 run baseball, fighting through base runners and giving his team a chance to win the game. Cesar Bernal came in for the save, he showed poise and was relaxed throughout. He shut the door on BSC giving the Royals their first win of conference play. Finishing the weekend 1-1. Jon Lund, Jared Gesell, Landen Hall all picking up multiple hits keeping the pressure on BSC.
Head Coach Kyal Williams said, "The boys showed some amazing character, coming back from a tough game and coming out fighting. With everyone talking, making great plays and team hitting. It was the first time we were able to put all three aspects together, hitting, pitching and defense. It hopefully shows the boys how good they are when they relax and play together. Exciting times to come from this great bunch of guys!"
