Game 1: The scores pretty much explains the whole game for both sides. 27-20 is a huge score in baseball and for both sides it came down to pitching that was the main reason for both teams scores. For us it was throwing behind in the counts and walking guys builds for big innings. Our hitting really showed what it can do this year with Patrick Beck getting three hits, and Moran, Swanson, Hoyt, Walsh, Millan and Hall all contributing with two hits each. With Hoyt starting the season off early with his first home run. The approach to the game was excellent from the boys, we were behind and they kept fighting their way back into the game with getting on base, running ground balls out and getting good hits in great situations making it a close game. The Royals showed they wouldn't quit and battled the whole game.
Game 2: After a high scoring game before the Royals came and kept the bats going scoring two runs in the first. It is always easy for a side to give up after a lose like that, but great credit to them as they stayed the same approach at the plate and succeed. Main contributors Jordan Swanson going 3 for 3 and Cesar Bernal going 3 for 4 with two doubles, getting both of these guys bats going is a huge boost for our team. Becker, Hoyt, Lund, Hall, Zach and Dolleslanger all contributing with hits.
But it was not just our bats that came alive it was a great starting pitching performance from Freshman Edgar Millan throwing 6 innings and keeping us ahead of Anoka Ramsey the whole game. Throwing 132 pitchers is a tough call for any pitcher and he did not look tired at any point during the game. With Walsh coming in to close the game in the seventh to get his first save of the year.
It was a great all-round performance from the boys to get the dominating 17-3 win.
Thursday 17th:
It could have been a tough day at the office for the Royals as they were facing Northern Arkansas College Ace throwing upper 80s. But they looked completely calm and stayed with what they do all through the game. Getting base runners on every single inning and with a couple of clutch hits the game could have been a completely different story. Lance Anderson getting two hits was great too see in his first start of spring. Moran, Becker, Hoyt and Clark getting hits making it a great lineup performance.
The most impressive player of the game was Bridger Urban, throwing 6 innings of great baseball mixing up speeds and making Northern Arkansas College mistime many hits and getting outs regularly. They ended up closing out the game and getting the win 7-6 over Northern Arkansas.
With a good day especially for boys in their first start of spring, coaching staff is very pleased with what they did.
The Royals finished the road trip 4-4.
