Slow Start to the Year for Royals Volleyball
Four games into the season for the Lady Royals Volleyball team and one thing has been evident, the highs have been high and the lows have been low.
Four games into the season for the Lady Royals Volleyball team and one thing has been evident, there have been highs and there have been lows.
LRSC opened the season on the road where they took on Bismarck State College and Dawson Community College twice on August 23rd and August 24th. On the first day the Lady Royals were able to scrap out a 3-1 win over Dawson but came up short against Bismarck losing 3-0. Day two saw what seemed to be fatigue set in on the Lady Royals. A slow start versus the Bucs of DCC would doom them to a 3-0 loss. Then despite their best efforts, with a hard fought first and third set they would lose to the Mystics 3-0.
Rachel Hill would lead the Royals tallying 90 assists over the weekend.
Lake Region would return home on Monday August 26th to take on Mayville State JV in front of a packed sportscenter. The crowd energized the team and they jumped out to a 20-11 advantage. That lead would be short lived as the Comets would rally and take the first set 27-25. The second set saw Mayville keep their advantage and win 25-17. The third set saw inspired play out of LRSC and was some of the best volleyball they have played all season. They would take the set 25-15. However, they would be unable to keep the momentum going. It would take a comeback by the Lady Royals to tie it up at 22. A timeout by the Comets to regroup and they would take the last three points to win the set 25-22 and the match 3-1.
Rachel Hill continued to her stellar on court play. Jadaeya Morrell would put away some nice shots and Jexley Porrata provided some great serves nailing a few aces in the third set.
Head Coach Brigitte Greywater had this to say about the start of the year, "When we have been good we have been very good. The third set against Mayville showed the type of team we can really become. We played some very dominant volleyball. In our win against Dawson we were able to eliminate a lot of mistakes and string together winning plays to get our first win of the season. On the other side of things we have haven't been very good at times. The good news about that is alot of our mistakes we can fix. We have to do a better job communicating on balls, attack the net hard and eliminate our service errors. The team will get back in the gym and get better."
The Lady Royals take on Trinity Bible College Wednesday night at the Sportscenter 7pm. They then hit the road and will not return to the friendly confines of home until September 17th.
