On Saturday afternoon, the Royals took on the #15 ranked North Dakota State College of Science Wildcats for a chance to advance to the Region XIII Championship. It was a tall task for the Lady Royals, having lost the previous two tilts 3-0. This time LRSC was riding momentum off a big quarterfinal victory and hoped to keep the momentum going.
Early in the first set it looked like it had, with the Lady Royals all tied up with the Wildcats at 19. However, a late run by the ranked team put them away 25-22. LRSC found themselves in an early hole 1-0. In the second set there was no quit, the Lady Royals had it all tied up midway through at 13. Then, they took a late lead 23-22 after a Maara Nelson kill. Again though, it was not meant to be as NDSCS dug deep and made another run to take a 2-0 lead. The damage had been done and despite their best efforts it was all Wildcats. They proved why they were the #15 team in all the land winning the third set 25-12. With that loss the LRSC Volleyball's season came to an end falling in three straight sets to NDSCS.
LRSC would finish the season 25-13, a vast improvement from the year before. Head Coach Brigitte Greywater said in her interview, "These girls have nothing to feel bad about and everything to be proud of. They turned around a program, something that is not easy to do. This team came in and bought in from day 1 and worked tirelessly to be the best team they could be. I am proud to be the coach of this team. I am proud of all that we accomplished this season."
Go Royals!
