On the road Monday night, the Lake Region State College Royals Volleyball team squared off against North Dakota State College of Science Wildcats in a MonDak showdown.
NDSCS came into the game receiving votes nationally and LRSC was riding a 5 game win streak. The Royals were upset minded and trying to gather a statement win heading into the final part of their season. In the first set the Wildcats would take an early lead. However, everytime they tried to pull away the Royals would climb back into it, never letting them extend their lead. It was not until the final few points that NDSCS was able to string it together to take the first set 25-20. Set two was more of the same, a very back and forth hard fought set. Again, the Wildcats proved too much down the stretch and took the set 25-22. Riding the momentum of the first two set wins, the Wildcats would carry that into the third set to win it 25-18 and the match 3-0.
Head Coach Brigitte Greywater said after the game, "I was proud of our effort tonight. You could tell the girls really wanted this game. We were so close throughout, a few plays here and there things could have been different. There are a few areas we need to clean up but I am excited with where we are at as a team. We have two big conference games this week at home. If we play like we did tonight, I think we will be just fine."
With the loss the Royals drop to 15-9 (5-3) on the season. They are currently in firm control of the third spot in the MonDak Conference standings behind the NDSCS Wildcats and BSC Mystics. The Royals will be back in action on Wednesday night against Miles Community College and Thursday against Dawson Community College. Both games will be home and start at 7pm. Wednesday nights game against Miles will be at the sportscenter and the tailgate will be sponsored by Papa Murphy's Pizza. Thursday nights game against Dawson will be played at Sweetwater Elementary school.
