Royals Bring Back Two Wins from Their Road Trip
This past weekend the Lady Royals Volleyball team traveled to Wahpeton, ND for 4 games in 2 days.

This past weekend the Lady Royals Volleyball team traveled to Wahpeton, ND for 4 games in 2 days.
Day one had the Royals matched up vs. Ellsworth CC in game one. Set one between the two teams was an exciting one as both teams came ready to play. The score was tied up throughout, neither team taking more than a couple points in the lead. With the score tied up at 24, Ellsworth took the final two points and the first set 26-24. To start the second set the Royals came out flat, digging themselves in a hole down 8-2. A timeout by the Royals proved to be the difference as they rallied to tie the set up at 16. For the second straight set both teams were locked up in a tie at 24 points. Again, Ellsworth would take the final two points off the Royals to win set one. The Royals lost momentum heading into the third set which Ellsworth jumped out on top and never looked back. They won the third set 25-12 and the match 3 sets to 0.
The second match of day one had the Royals squaring off against #14 Iowa Central. The first set was all Iowa Central as they cruise to a 25-11 victory over LRSC. The Royals came out ready to battle in the second set and played the #14 team in the nation much closer. The final score of the second set was 25-17 in favor of Iowa Central. The third set saw the Royals play hard against their ranked opponent. They could not overcome the errors and mistakes and that led to Iowa Central winning the third set 25-18 and the match 3 sets to 0.
Head Coach Brigitte Greywater said, "I thought we competed better today. We had a ton of digs and our passing was on point. We battled the whole way against some tough competition. I am looking forward to tomorrow and the opportunity for us to get better."
Day two saw a motivated and consistent Royals team. It all began with quick starts in sets. Set one versus Gogebic, LRSC jumped out to an early 13-7 lead causing them to take a timeout. Gogebic, came out of the time out and closed the gap 16-13 causing the Royals to take a timeout of their own. The Royals buckled down and finished off the set going on a 9-2 run to close it out and win the set 25-15. Errors plagued the Royals in the second set and they dropped it 25-22. The third set was all about the runs. The Royals start off on a 6-2 run of their own. Then a run by Gogebic cuts the lead 13-10. After Gogebic made their run LRSC made the biggest one of the match pulling away for a 20-11 lead, then closing out the set 25-11 to win. The third and final set was all LRSC, they cruised to a 25-14 set victory and the match 3 sets to 1 over Gogebic.
The second match of the day had the Royals matched up against Iowa Lakes. LRSC set the tone in the first set with a convincing 25-17 win. During the second set it was more of the same for the Royals. They jumped out to an 18-13 lead. Iowa Lakes closed it at 23-19 but the Royals took over down the stretch and finished the set off 25-20. The third set proved to be a back and forth one. The Royals kept the lead comfortably for most of the set but every time they tried to pull away Iowa Lakes made a run of their own. With the score 21-16 in favor of the Royals Iowa Lakes made a run to close the gap 23-23. LRSC buckled down and finished off the last two points winning the set 25-23 and the match 3 sets to 0.
Head Coach Brigitte Greywater said, "What a performance by our girls today with two big wins. This is the effort and consistency we have been talking about all year. These were two quality wins and we are moving in the right direction."
The Royals kill percentage on day two was the highest it has been all season, they also had 57 digs as a team and most importantly their team serve receive was at a 2.0! The Royals are now 3-13 (0-2) as they head into their game Monday night against Jamestown JV. It is a home game at Sweetwater, game time is 7pm. Come out and support your Royals volleyball team!
