Royals Go on the Road and Get a Win at the Ridgewater Classic
The Lake Region State College Lady Royals volleyball team hit the road this weekend to compete in the Ridgewater Classic in Wilmar, MN.

The Lake Region State College Lady Royals volleyball team hit the road this weekend to compete in the Ridgewater Classic in Wilmar, MN.
The trip proved to be a successful one as the Lady Royals snagged their first win of the season in their opening game over Riverland 3-1. The first set proved to be a tough one for both teams. Riverland was able to pull ahead early with a 12-7 lead. The Lady Royals cut that lead to 19-18 forcing a Riverland timeout. The timeout proved to be just what they needed as they rolled out to 6 straight points with Riverland beating the Royals in the first set 25-18. Set two was as close as they come with neither team taking more than a two point lead throughout the set until the end when a late Royals run won it for them 25-20. With both teams tied at a set the third set was a chance for someone to take advantage. Neither team wanted to give in as the set went all the way and then some with the Lady Royals pulling away at the end for the win 27-25. The fourth and final set was all LRSC. The Lady Royals jumped out to an early lead and never looked back winning the fourth set 25-18. The final score for the match was LRSC 3 sets to 1 over Riverland.
Stand outs for the Royals were Precious Rawlins had 18 digs followed by 15 digs and 8 kills from Erin Jorgenson. Jaeleon Roberts had 28 assists,. Elizabeth Lucy had 12 kills. Mary Kalal had 5 blocks and Elizabeth Lucy had 7. Amber Stewart and Carly Boe each had a pair of aces.
Game 2 of the trip had the Lady Royals matched up with a very talented Central Lakes team. The first set started out with a good battle and both teams locked at 10 points. However, it was short lived as Central Lakes went on a 15-5 run to end the first set 25-15 over the Lady Royals. This was another hard fought set that came down to the end. The Lady Royals called timeout down 21-22. This timeout proved to be exactly what they needed as they came out and finished off the set for the win 25-22. The next two sets were all Central Lakes as they took control early in both. The final of the third set 25-13 and 25-16 in favor of Central Lakes. They win the match 3 sets to 1.
Stand outs for the Royals were Jaeleon Roberts who had 19 assists and 3 blocks. Precious Rawlins had 14 digs. Mary Kalal had 11 kills and Adrianna Bibeau had 7.
Day two of the Ridgewater Class had LRSC matched up in game one versus Ellsworth Community College. The match was all Ellsworth as they won the first two sets 25-15. The third set the Royals battled and kept it closer but came up short falling 25-21. The final Ellsworth 3 matches to 0.

The second match of the dat was the final one of the tournament. LRSC was matched up against the host Ridgewater. Ridgewater came out with a hot start and took the first set 25-16. That trend continued in the second with Ridgewater winning 25-9. The third and final set was the better match for the Royals as they battled but came up just short 25-19. Ridgewater takes the match 3 sets to 0.
Head Coach Brigitte Greywater said about the weekend, "We did some soul searching after a tough start to the year. We came out and got our first win of the year which is exciting. We played better volleyball at times. We weren't consistent in all our games but we showed promise. We will keep working hard and build off of our lessons from this weekend."
The Royals are back in action this week Wednesday night at Dawson Community College, Friday and Saturday at the Northeast Community College Tournament.
