When the Lake Region State College Royals Volleyball team traveled to Torrington, WY for the WyoBraska Volleyball tournament they knew it would be no easy task. The Royals did not back from the challenge and took this as an opportunity to improve versus high quality opponents.
Day 1
LRSC's first opponent was Northwest Community College Trappers. The Royals had a slow start and the Trappers took advantage with a 25-8 victory in the first set. The next two sets saw the Royals battle but errors and inconsistencies were costly. Northwest took the last two sets 25-13 and 25-14. They won the match three sets to zero.
The second opponent for the Royals was the host team, Eastern Wyoming Community College Lancers. The first set saw a late run by the Lancers put the game away with the final score of 25-16. The Royals could not find their groove in the second set and lost the second set 25-11. The third and final set was heavily contested with both sides going back and forth. The Lancers were able to pull it out over the Royals in the end with the final 25-21. They won the match three sets to zero.
Head Coach Brigitte Greywater said about the day, "We need to choose what team we want to be and stop playing to the level of our competition."
Day 2
The Royals had an early morning start on the second day of the WyoBraska Tournament but it didn't show. They came out and battled with the Western Wyoming Community College Mustangs. The first set saw the Mustangs pull away late and get a 25-14 victory. The second set saw the Royals in the lead throughout but a late run by the Mustangs and a few ill-timed errors by the Royals saw that lead dwindle. The Royals ended up falling late in the second set with the final 25-22. The Mustangs used the momentum from the second set victory to take the third set as well 25-14. WWCC wins three sets to zero.
The final match for the Royals was arguably their best game of the weekend against their toughest opponent Casper Community College Thunderbirds. The first set saw a tough back and forth between both squads, with neither team pulling away by more than a couple points. The Thunderbirds pulled the set out in the end 25-21. The second set saw much of the same between these two teams. A late run by the Thunderbirds put the set away 25-19. The Royals ran out of gas in the third set, Casper took it with a final score 25-16. Casper wins three sets to zero.
Head Coach Brigitte Greywater said about the day, "We're still on a roller coaster ride as a team. Need to keep that consistency. I thought we regrouped and played much better as a team today, especially in our final match against Casper."
The Royals are back in action on Monday September 19th at home versus Jamestown JV. Game will be at 7pm at Sweetwater Elementary. There will be no tailgate for this game. Come out and support your Royals Volleyball team.
