Women's Basketball: FInish the Season 20-12
The Lake Region State College women's basketball team ended their season Saturday in the Region XIII Semi-Finals against North Dakota School of Science.
The Royals finished the season with a 20-12 record, making it back-to-back 20 win seasons. The Royals were led in scoring by Tiyahna Trottier who averaged 9.6 per game, with Brooke Kleinig and Kelsey Crossan tied for second with 9.5. Kelsey Crossan led the team in rebounding per game with 6.9 while Brooke Kleinig led the team in assist per a game with 2.6.
Brooke Kleinig and Tiyahna Trottier were named to the MonDak second team all-conference. "I am a firm believer that individual honors are created through team success, congratulations to Brooke and Tiyahna, and congratulations to our team". Said Head Coach Ryan Clark.
The Royals prided themselves on defense this past season ranking 10th in NJCAA Division I for defensive field goal percentage, which led the MonDak Conference.
"Although we did not reach our overall goal, this team has a lot to be proud of. Starting the season 3 and 6, we had players in and out of the lineup constantly due to injuries, sickness and personal reasons. We continued to work hard, did not complain and we kept getting better. We finished the remainder of the season 17 and 6, which is a true testament to the team. I will miss coaching this group" says Clark.
Coach Clark on his sophomores, "I am going to miss coaching Carla, Brailyn, Anisah, Kyla, Kelsey and Brooke. All six have demonstrated what it means to be a Royal Student-Athlete. They have been excellent examples in our community, in the classroom and on the basketball court. I am grateful for their hard work and dedication to this program. This program is in a better place because of them, and I am excited to see what comes next for them."
