The Lake Region State College Lady Royals were in Bismarck for the Region XIII Tournament this past week.
The tournament began with LRSC matched up against Dawson CC on Friday February 28th. The Lady Royals could do no wrong in the first quarter, exploding for 29 points and a 15 point lead. They would never look back on their way to an 84-65 victory over the Buccanners.
Jordyn Worley continued her offensive output with 27 points and 12 rebounds. Averi Ziegler chipped in 14 points.
Next up was the number one seed Bismarck State College Mystics. This game would be played on Saturday, February 29th.
Unlike the Dawson game the Lady Royals found themselved in one hole after another. Getting down by double digits multiple times only to climb back into. BSC would make one final run over the third and fourth quarter that would put LRSC away. The final Bismarck State 81 Lake Region 70.
Jordyn Worley 21 points and Kayla Byrne scored 15 points off the bench.
Head Coach Danny Mertens said after the games, "We fought hard this weekend but ultimately came up short. I am proud of this team, we had some injuries and bad luck we had to over come throughout the year. The girls stayed positive and showed up to work every day. I really enjoyed coaching this team and they will always be special to me."
LRSC would finish the season with a 19-14 (8-6) record.
