On Wednesday, January 29th, the Lake Region State College Lady Royals basketball team traveled to Bottineau to take on the Dakota College Lady Jacks in a MonDak Conference game.
After ending the first quarter tied with DCB, Head Coach Danny Mertens let his team know that he was not happy with their performance. They heard him loud and clear, cranking up the pressure and intensity on the Jacks. LRSC would go on to outscore them 27-15 in the 2nd, 26-19 in the 3rd and 19-16 in the 4th to carry them to a 81-59 win over DCB. Jordyn Worley paced the Royals with 22pts and Kayla Byrne scored 16 points hitting 4 of 8 from behind the arc.
Coach Mertens had this to say after the game, "I wasn't happy with our slow start. There was a great crowd their tonight and DCB played us tough in the 1st. My fear was that if we let them get the crowd into it, it was going to be a long night. However, the girls rose to the occasion and took control of the game from the second on. I thought we guarded well tonight, holding them to 59 points & 28% shooting. When we do those things we are going to get a lot of wins."
The Lady Royals are now 15-9 (5-2) with a big road trip to Williston, ND and Miles, MT coming up next week.
