Lady Royals Season Ends in Region Quarterfinals

On Friday night, the Lady Royals traveled to Miles City, MT to take on Dawson CC in the opening round of the Region XIII Tournament.

In what would be the fourth matchup between these two teams all season, the Lady Royals had topped the Buccaneers all three times prior. They say it is never easy to beat a team three times but it must be pretty difficult to make it a fourth.

Despite an early 22-7 lead from LRSC, DCC would not back down and kept fighting to make it only 40-34 in favor of the Lady Royals at half. A big third quarter from Dawson where they would outscore Lake Region 24-11, would prove to be the difference in the game. Also working against them would be 28 turnovers and 3-13 from behind the arc. The final LRSC 69 DCC 75.

First team All Conference player Maara Nelson would lead the Royals in her final game with 19pts and 6rebs. Jadyn Pollert would put up 14pts and 8rebs. Stephanie Miller was the other Lady Royal with Second Team All MonDak Conference recognition.

Head Coach Danny Mertens said about his team, "I am proud of all we accomplished this season. We won 19 games, our girls had a 3.52 team GPA first semester and represented our program the right way on and off the floor. It may not have ended the way we wanted but that should not take away from them in anyway. This being our first year back having the MonDak Tournament you have a chance to play teams four times now. It just kept getting closer each time, with last win going to OT. You just get so familiar with each other that you have to be at your best to win. We made some uncharacteristic turnovers that hurt us. I want to thank our sophomores for their dedication these last two seasons. They will always hold a special place in my heart."

The Lady Royals season comes to a close with a 19-13 record.
