Playing two games in three days is no easy task but it was what was asked of the Lady Royals basketball team. Due to weather, the Royals would travel to Williston State on Friday night for a rescheduled game and then on to Glendive, MT to take on Dawson CC.
First up was the Tetons of Williston State. The travel seemed to get the better of the Lady Royals as they got off to a slow start. Throughout the game, the lead would go back and forth. Every time one team would try and make a run, the other would counter. A three point barrage from Teton Kristen Gould would prove to be too much for LRSC. She would go 8-10 from behind the arc. Despite a 22 point effort from Jordyn Worley, and 13 a piece from Dani Schwanke and Maara Nelson, Lake Region would come up short. Williston State would make their free throws to ice in on their way to a 70-68 victory.
The Buccaneers of Dawson were next up. At the half they were hanging to a 34-27 lead over the Lady Royals. Lake Region decided to make their move, a big second half surge would tie the game up and force overtime on the road. It was all Lady Royals in OT they would out score the Bucs 12-4 in the extra time out executing their foes late to take the win 84-76. Maara Nelson would score 27 points add 7 rebounds and 4 assists in the win. Jadyn Pollert came up one rebound short of a double double with 17 points and 9 rebounds.
Head Coach Danny Mertens said, "I was dissappointed in how flat we came out Friday night against Williston State. It almost happened again but they flipped the switch at half time and found their way in Dawson. We need to continue to strive to play a full game. Consistency is our biggest shortcoming right now. If we can put it all together for a full 40 minutes we can be a dangerous team come tournament time."
The Lady Royals are now 17-10 (5-5) and will take on United Tribes on Thursday night at home.
