On Thursday, January 17th the Lake Region State College Lady Royals traveled to Montana to take on the Miles Pioneers in a MonDak Conference match up.
Both teams came into the game a perfect 2-0 in conference and Miles ranked in the top 25 NJCAA polls. The #22 ranked team came out and proved their ranking early, jumping out on LRSC with their attacking style defense. Head Coach Danny Mertens took a timeout to settle his team and was able to coarse a run out of them cutting the Pioneer lead to five midway through the second. That run was short lived, as the home team would go on a 24-8 run between the second and third quarter to extend their lead. The final LRSC 51 #22 Miles 85. The Royals were led by Stephanie Miller and her 17pts.
Head Coach Danny Mertens said, "It just wasn't our night, we had Maara and Dani get into foul trouble early. Add in Jayden not being able to play because of an injury really threw us out of whack with our rotations. The girls had their moments against a talented Miles team but that is all it was, moments. To beat a good team like that you have to play a complete game and we did not do that. We have a quick turn around before Bismarck on Sunday. We need to be ready to go."
With the loss the Royals are now 14-6 (2-1) and will play Bismarck State College at home Sunday January 20th, 1pm.
