Lady Royals Bring Back Pair of Wins from Arizona

The Lake Region State College Lady Royals basketball team traveled to Arizona over Christmas break. They would play three games in three days, against some top competition.

Game one got off to a slow start versus Mesa Community College. The Royals found themselves down 20-2 before they knew what hit them. Shooting woes plagued them throughout the game as they would shoot 25% from the field and 18% from behind the line. It would all be too much for them to overcome as they would lose 69-47. Telesia Manumaleuga would lead the Royals with 9 points 4 rebounds and 4 steals.

Next up was the Artichokes of Scottsdale Community College. This time it would be the Royals who got off to a good start. They built a ten point lead heading into half 32-22. LRSC would use stifling defense to propel themselves to victory. They would hold Scottsdale to 29% from the field and 23% from three. The final, Lake Region State 66 Scottsdale 58. Jordyn Worley 12 points and Jadyn Pollert 12 points and 9 rebounds would lead the Lady Royals.

The third and final game for LRSC was against the Phoenix College Bears. A big night from behind the arc and the free throw line would propel the Lady Royals to victory. They would knock down eight threes and make twenty four free throws on their way to a 72-61 victory. Dani Schwanke would pour in 19 points for the Lady Royals.

Head Coach Danny Mertens said, "Outside of the 1st quarter of our game versus Mesa, I was very happy with the way we played. I give these ladies a lot of credit for staying focused over the break to earn these two victories. We had to overcome a lot of adversity on this trip. Different girls stepped up each game and our bench came up big when we needed them."

LRSC is now 10-5 on the season.
