Offensive Struggles Plague Lady Royals

The Lake Region State College Royals basketball team traveled to Wahpeton, ND to take on the league leading Wildcats of NDSCS. Coming into the game the Royals were 17-10 (6-3) while NDSCS was 22-2 (9-0) and ranked #19 in the latest NJCAA Division 1 polls.

For the Lady Royals basketball team, it was one of those nights you wish you could get back offensively. No matter what LRSC did, it just did not seem like they could get the ball to go in the hoop. Despite a solid performance defensively, the Lady Royals were never able to cut it under single digits after a 22-8 3rd quarter run by the Wildcats. On the night, the LRSC would shoot 27% from the field and 8% from 3, going 1-13. The final score NDSCS 65 LRSC 41. Maara Nelson and Emily Schafer led the scoring for the Lady Royals with 12 points each. Schafer would chip in 9 rebounds to go with it.

Head Coach Danny Mertens said, "When you play the #19 team in the country you have to be at your best and we were not offensively tonight. We had a great game plan defensively that I thought the ladies did an excellent job of executing, we just were not able to help ourselves out on the other end of the floor."

With the loss LRSC drops to 17-11 (6-4) on the season and will travel to Bismarck on Sunday to take on UTTC at 1pm.
