Lady Royals Win Game of Runs for First MonDak Win
The Lake Region State College Lady Royals basketball started MonDak Conference play on Sunday against Bismarck State College.
The Lake Region State College Lady Royals basketball started MonDak Conference play on Sunday against Bismarck State College. LRSC came into the game with an 11-7 record with Bismarck State had an 8-6 record.
The game was an exciting one with both teams making runs throughout. Bismarck would make the first one when they started the game 11-0. It would then be the Lady Royals turn to make a run of their own to take their first lead 17-16. During the second quarter, the Mystics would take the largest lead of the game at 33-20. The Royals would then go on a big 23-2 run aided by Annie Jorgenson and her 19 points on the day. Down the stretch, both teams were still battling for the lead. Half way through the 4th quarter, the Lady Royals hung on to 63-57 lead. LRSC would close out BSC with the final score 71-68. Shay'Lee Dayman logged a big double double for the Lady Royals with 13 points and 10 rebounds, Maara Nelson continued her stellar play with 14 points.
Head Coach Danny Mertens said, "I want to applaud our girls for the way they finished this game out. BSC threw a lot at us in the end and we were tough enough to get stops down the stretch. We still have some things we need to clean up but getting that first MonDak win is a great feeling."
The Lady Royals move to 12-7 (1-0 MonDak) they will be back in action Thursday night 5:30pm vs. Williston State College.
