Softball Finds Success in Minnesota
The LRSC Softball team headed to the Minneapolis area this weekend to play seven games in the Irish Sports Dome in Rosemount, MN.

The LRSC Softball team headed to the Minneapolis area this weekend to play seven games in the Irish Sports Dome in Rosemount, MN.
The first 4 games were against Region 13 opponents Gogebic Community College and Bay Community College both out of Michigan. The other 3 games were against Itasca Community College, St. Cloud Technical and Community College, and Dakota College at Bottineau.
March 22, 2019 – Game 1 today was against Bay Community College (BCC). The Royals lost by the score of 3 to 12 in 5 innings. Things started well for Lake Region, as they jumped to a 3 to 1 lead after 2 innings. Samantha Shumway lead off the game with a triple and scored when Emily Wininger singled her in. In the second inning, Alysha Moser lead off with a double and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Madison Foss. Jaelynn Jenkins score in the inning after Shumway singled. With the score 3 to 2 in favor of the Royals, the Bay College team erupted for 7 runs in the 4th inning off of pitcher Lexi Davis. Bay later scored 3 more in the 5th inning ending the game by the 8 run rule with the score of 12-3. For the game, Shumway was 3 for 3 with an RBI and a triple. The Royals were only able to get 5 hits in the game. Davis pitched 5 innings, giving up 11 earned runs, striking out 5, walking 5, and 3 homeruns.
In game 2 versus Gogebic Community College, the Royals won by the score of 15 to 1 in 5 innings. Madison Foss and Emily Wininger pitched combining for only 1 run with 6 strikeouts. Cecilia Lucero went 3 for 3 at the plate, scoring 3 runs, had 3 RBI's, and 2 doubles. Kendra Karl went 2 for 2 at the plate, scoring 2 and walking once. Precious Rawlins, Tehani Yamamoto, Sadie Schilling, Madison Foss, and Lexi Davis all had hits.
March 23, 2019 – The Royals started the day playing Bay Community College losing by a score of 11-3 in 5 innings. Things didn't start well for the Royals. Bay College jumped out to a 9 run lead after 3 innings off pitcher Tehani Yamamoto. Lexi Davis was able to come in relief to stop the momentum. After the 4th inning the Royals seemed to settle down. They scored twice in the 4th inning. Alysha Moser lead off the 4th inning with a walk then later scored on a fielder's choice out by Samantha Shumway. Mariah Parker then scored when Tehani Yamamoto singled. A solo homerun by Alysha Moser in the 5th brought the score to 9 to 3 in favor of Bay College. The game ended when Bay College scored 2 in the bottom of the 5th.
Game 2 against Gogebic Community College went much the same way as their previous meeting. The Royals won 16 to 2 in 5 innings. Alysha Moser went 3 for 5 at the plate with a homerun and 3 RBI's. Samantha Shumway was 2 for 2 at the plate with a walk and a homerun. Mariah Parker, Madison Foss, Precious Rawlins, Lexi Davis, and Kendra Karl each had a hit. Madison Foss and Emily Wininger handled the pitching duties combining for the 2 runs with 2 strikeouts a piece.
March 25, 2019 – The first game today saw the Royals playing Itasca Community College. The Royals won by the score of 10-7. In the game, Tehani Yamamoto pitched the complete game giving up 5 earned runs, 1 homerun, striking out 3, and not walking anyone. Yamamoto and Emily Wininger each had 2 hits in the game. Jaelynn Jenkins, Samantha Shumway, Sadie Schilling, Madison Foss, Lexi Davis, and Cecilia Lucero each had hits. Jenkins had 3 RBI's in the game.
The second game of the day was against Mon-Dak conference opponent Dakota College at Bottineau. The Jacks from Dakota College won the game by the score of 5 to 3. In the 4th inning the Jacks held a 4 run lead. The Royals scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 4th when Sadie Schilling walked and scored after Lexi Davis singled. Davis later scored when Precious Rawlins singled her in with the bases loaded. The Royals were only able to score the two in the inning and left the bases loaded. Dakota College scored again in the 6th to take a 5 to 2 lead but in the bottom of the 7th the Royals threatened when Emily Wininger singled scoring Sadie Schilling after she doubled earlier. For the game, the Royals collected 8 hits. Two each from Schilling, Wininger, and Precious Rawlins. Lexi Davis pitched the complete 7 inning game striking out 8, walking 3, giving up 6 hits, 1 homerun and 3 earned runs.
In the final game of the day, the Royals took on St. Cloud Technical and Community College losing in 8 innings by the score of 8 to 9. In the first, the Royals scored first when Samantha Shumway lead off the game with a single, was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Tehani Yamamoto, then later scored when Sadie Schilling grounded out to the shortstop. St. Cloud Tech tied the game in the second 1 to 1 and had the bases loaded but the Royals were able to get some critical ground outs to end the inning. In the 5th inning, the Royals exploded for 4 runs in the inning when Lexi Davis lead off with a single, Cecilia Lucero doubled her in, then Mariah Parker singled scoring Lucero. Parker then scored when Tehani Yamamoto doubled. Precious Rawlins then singled scoring Yamamoto giving the Royals a 5 to 2 lead. The lead was short lived however because in the bottom of the 5th, the team from St. Cloud scored 4 runs to take a 1 run lead. Royals pitcher Madison Foss was replaced in the bottom of the 6th inning by Emily Wininger. Wininger was able to get 6 quick outs to keep the Royals in the game. In the top of the 7th the Royals scored 1 run and almost had 2 more when Lexi Davis hit a long single off the top of the fence. With the score tied at 6, the game went into extra innings. The Royals scored 2 in the top of the 8th. Sadie Schilling scored when Emily Wininger doubled. Wininger later scored on Davis' long single. Unfortunately for the Royals they were unable to hold the St. Cloud Tech team as the scored 3 runs off 3 hits.
