The Lake Region State College Softball team was at home for the first time this season playing back to back days in double headers versus Williston State College and Jamestown JV.
4/24/2018- The Lake Region State College softball team was home for the first time this season playing a double header against Mon-Dak Conference opponent Williston State College. The Royals dropped both games by the scores of 4-17 and 2-6. In the first game, Gina Selfe started the pitching duties but lasted only 2 and a third innings. The Teton of Williston scored 1 run in each of the first 2 innings but exploded for 6 runs in the third taking an 8 to 0 lead into the bottom half of the inning. The Royals got on the board after Alysha Moser singled and Sadie Schilling blasted a homerun over the left field fence cutting the lead to 6. In the fourth inning, Williston again scored 2 runs on 3 hits off of relief pitcher Madison Foss. The Royals threatened in the bottom of the fourth but were only able to score one run. In the fifth, the Royals scored another then held the Tetons in the sixth. In the top half of the seventh inning, Williston again erupted in a flurry of runs utilizing errors by the defense, walks, and timely, well placed singles to score 7 runs. For the game, Madison Eriksson and Alysha Moser each had 2 hits while Sadie Schilling, Krista Waldo, Tai Yamamoto, and Madison Foss had one.
In game 2, The Tetons scored one to lead off the game when leadoff hitter Rebekah Salgado doubled then Sarah Salgado doubled to score her. The Royals then jumped to a 2 to 1 lead in the first inning after Sadie Schilling and Krista Waldo both walked to start the inning. Schilling scored on a wild pitch and Waldo scored when Amber Stewart doubled in the left field gap. The Royals pitcher Amber Stewart was unable to hold the lead when in the fourth inning the Tetons were able to score 3 off of a couple of hits and 2 fielding errors to take a 4 to 2 lead. Williston scored 2 more in the 7th inning on a couple of singles and a fielding error. Stewart took the loss. The Royals had 7 hits in the game. Doubles by Stewart and Tai Yamamoto plus singles by Cherie Malacas, Kendra Karl, Madison Eriksson, and two by Krista Waldo.
4/25/2108- The University of Jamestown's JV team came to town to play a double header. The Royals were able to sweep the Jimmies by scores of 8 to 6 and 3 to 1 using solid pitching and better defense to help with the wins. In the first game, the Royals jumped out to a 6 to 0 lead in the first. Sadie Schilling walked, Cherie Malacas bunted safely, Amber Stewart reached on an error, Tai Yamamoto was hit by a pitch scoring Schilling, then Madison Foss laced a double in the gap scoring 3 runs. Precious Rawlins singled scoring Foss and Zoe Willis-Wildman to account for the 6 runs. The Royals were able to score one run in the fourth when Amber Stewart doubled in the gap to score Sadie Schilling and another in the seventh inning when Stewart again hit Schilling in. Madison Foss was able to hold off the Jimmies pitching the complete game giving up 6 runs off of 10 hits and striking out 2.
In the second game, the Royals got a nice pitching performance from Gina Selfe to secure the 3 to 1 victory. In the first inning, the Royals were able to score 2 runs after Amber Stewart singled to score Sadie Schilling who walked to lead off the game. Stewart then scored when Krista Waldo hit into a fielder's choice. In the second inning, the Royals stretched their lead after Precious Rawlins tripled to the right field corner and Sadie Schilling drilled a long sacrifice fly ball to score her. The Jimmies scored 1 run in the third but Gina Selfe was able to hold them down the remainder of the game to seal the victory. In the game, Amber Stewart had 2 hits while Krista Waldo, Gina Selfe, Alysha Moser, and Precious Rawlins each had one hit.
The Lady Royals softball team will be back in action this weekend with a home double header against Dakota College at Bottineau on Saturday. Game times are 1pm and 3pm for that. Then they will travel to Bottineau for another double header against Dakota College. Game time for those will be 1pm and 3pm on Sunday.
