No Place Like the Dome
Due to all the weather issues, the Royals softball team traveled to Aberdeen, SD Wednesday April 11th to play the Jimmies from the University of Jamestown JV team inside the Presentation College dome.
Due to all the weather issues, the Royals softball team traveled to Aberdeen, SD Wednesday April 11th to play the Jimmies from the University of Jamestown JV team inside the Presentation College dome.
Game 1
The Royals persevered in the first game of the evening winning in 8 innings by the score of 5-4. Pitcher Amber Stewart started out the game strong striking out 5 of the 12 batters she faced but 2 errors in the second inning cost the Royals 3 runs. Amber was replaced in the 4th inning by Madison Foss due to shoulder issues. Madison continued the strong outing pitching a strong 5 innings to pick up the win. For the game, both pitchers only allowed one hit each giving up only one earned run, a homerun. Madison struck out 4 and gave up the earned run. In the game, the Royals were behind 3-0 in the 3rd before Krista Waldo blasted a solo homerun over the center field fence to cut the lead. In the 6th, down 4-1, Krista Waldo and Sadie Schilling walked bringing up Tai Yamamoto who doubled in the right center gap to score both of them. Gina Selfe then stepped up to the plate and grounded out but Yamamoto scored on the play. This tied up the game. Foss was tough on the rubber for the Royals shutting down the University of Jamestown JV in each of the last 3 innings facing only 10 batters. In the top of the 8th, Tai Yamamoto lead off the inning with another double, moved to 3rd on a wild pitch, then scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly by Amber Stewart.
Game 2
The Royals fell behind early in game 2. The Jimmies scored 1 run in each of the first 3 innings. In the top of the 3rd, the Royals got on the scoreboard after Sadie Schilling singled, advanced to second on a walk to Cherie Malacas then scored on a ground out by Tai Yamamoto. In the 5th inning, the Royals tied the score in dramatic fashion. Kendal Karl lead off the inning with a double after making a leaping catch in the outfield for the last out of the inning. Karl scored after Sadie Schilling blasted a homerun over the left field fence. The Royals threatened to score more in the inning after Krista Waldo advanced to third after a single but Tai Yamamoto lined out to the shortstop to end the inning. The Royals were unable to score again and gave up 2 runs in the 5th and one run in the 6th to drop their first loss of the season.
