The Lake Region State College Softball team played and won all 6 games on March 19th and 20th at the Irish Sports Dome in Rosemount, MN by the 8 run rule shortening the 7 inning games to 5 innings.
Monday March 19, 2018-
In the first game against Riverland Community College, the Royals won by the score of 27-0 in 5 innings. Gina Selfe got the pitching win and 12 of the 13 players had at least one hit in the game. Selfe pitched the complete game striking out 6, no runs, and allowing only 2 hits from the 19 batters faced. Cherie Malacas went 6 for 6 at the plate with 5 runs, 4 RBI's, 2 doubles, and 1 homerun. Tai Yamamoto also had a homerun in the game. Gina Selfe had 3 doubles, Sadie Schilling had 2 doubles, and Amber Stewart & Krista Waldo each had 1 double.
In the second game against Rainy River Community College, the Royals got a dominant pitching performance from Amber Stewart along with timely hitting to win by the score of 15-0 in the 5 inning game. For the game, Stewart faced just 18 batters, gave up 3 hits, and all the 15 outs in the game were strike outs. Gina Selfe and Caitlyn Stuart each had a homerun in the game while Cherie Malacas, Sadie Schilling, Amber Stewart, and Zoe Willis-Wildman each had 2 hits apiece.
In the third game of the day against Rochester Community and Technical College, the Royals won the 5 inning game by a score of 19-2. Madison Foss got the pitching win by throwing the 5 inning game. She faced 18 batters, striking out 6 and allowing only 1 earned run. Zoe Willis-Wildman had a 3 RBI homerun in the game and scored 3 runs. Sadie Schilling and Tai Yamamoto each had 2 hits in the game.
Tuesday March 20, 2018-
In the first game of the day against Rainy River Community College, the Royals won the 5 inning game by the score of 13-4. Gina Selfe got the win by facing 23 batters, giving up 8 hits, 3 earned runs, walking one, and striking out 5 batters. The game was close through 3 innings with the Royals ahead by 3 runs only to find Rainy River scoring 3 runs in the top of the 4th inning to tie the game. The Royals however responded as they have in the previous games by scoring 5 runs in the bottom of the 4th and another 5 runs in the bottom of the 5th to preserve the win. Several players had 2 hits in the game including Cherie Malacas, Tai Yamamoto, Gina Selfe, and Precious Rawlins. Krista Waldo had a double while Malacas and Rawlins each had 2 doubles.
The second game against Riverland Community College found similar results as the previous game, this time the Royals won 19-4. Caitlyn Stuart got the pitching win by throwing all 5 innings, facing 23 batters, striking out 6 batters, and giving up 5 hits. Nine Royals had multiple hits in the game. Cherie Malacas, Amber Stewart, and Precious Rawlins had homeruns. Krista Waldo, Sadie Schilling, Caitlyn Stuart, and Amber Stewart each had 3 hits. Kendra Karl had a hit in the game while Alysha Moser, Madison Foss, and Precious Rawlins each had 2 hits.
In the final game of the day, the Royals played Anoka Ramsey Community College winning the 5 inning game by a score of 11-2. Amber Stewart continued her dominant pitching performance by facing just 20 batters, giving up just 3 hits, no earned runs, and striking out 9 batters. The Royals opened up the tightly contested game in the 2nd inning by sending 12 batters to the plate and scoring 7 runs. In the 4th inning, there was 4 runs scored by timely hitting and well placed bunts. Cherie Malacas and Amber Stewart each had a great game at the plate collecting 3 hits. Stewarts 2 run homerun blast in the 2nd inning opened up the door for the Royals to score the 7 runs. Madison Eriksson had 2 hits and 2 RBI's in the game, also Krista Waldo Zoe Willis-Wildman scored 2 runs each.
For the 2 day period, the Royals had 9 homeruns, a team batting average of .540 and a slugging percentage of .824 while outscoring their opponents 104 to 12. Amber Stewart ended up with 24 strikeouts in 10 innings, Cherie Malacas had a batting average of .680, Gina Selfe had a batting average of .714, and Amber Stewart had a batting average of .714.
The Royals next scheduled games are at home on March 30th and 31st against Dakota County Technical College.
