The Lake Region State College Royals Softball team won both games against NDSCS yesterday completing the season sweep of the Wildcats.
North Dakota State College of Science 4/17/17
Game 1: vs North Dakota State College of Science 11 – 0 Win
Amber Stewart (4-2) 7 Strike Outs
Amber Stewart got the call on the mound again for the third time in five days and she continued to roll for the Royals. She did a great job of attacking the hitters right away and kept them guessing as a result. She was in the zone and nothing could distract her from doing what she wanted with the ball. She racked up seven strike outs through an almost perfect performance as she gave up two hits late in the contest. Offensively the Royals were able to jump out to an early lead by scoring seven runs in the first inning and never looked back. Head Coach Ben Morris said, "Our approaches were great today and we were really seeing the ball well out of the Wildcat pitchers hand. All together we had 5 extra base hits and all 11 runs were hit in by their teammates which shows just how well we were able to produce offensively."
Outstanding Performance:
Krista Waldo: she hit 1.000, scored 2 runs, had 3 RBI's, 1 Home Run, and 1 Triple to lead the Royals
Game 2: vs North Dakota State College of Science 14 – 6 Win
Kassandra Jones (3-0)
Game two saw some people in different positions in order to get some game experience while still playing at a high level. Kassandra Jones took the mound, she came out and threw strikes right away. This continued to do so even after she gave up a hard hit solo home run in the first inning. She pitched well and wasn't afraid to let her defense work behind her. Offensively the Royals were able to stay focused at the plate and attack the gaps in the outfield to keep the runners in motion on the basepaths. This game was good for some of the players as it allowed a few others to step up and make plays for the team. Head Coach Ben Morris said, "Everyone needs to stay focused and in the game in case their number is called. There were some moments where we were lackadaisical both offensively and defensively, but we were able to do what we needed to in order to secure a sweep of conference rival NDSCS."
Outstanding Performance:
Krista Waldo: she hit 1.000, scored 3 runs, had 2 RBI's, and stole 2 bases to lead the Royals.
Head Coach Ben Morris, "Overall these games went well to kick off our big conference stretch this week. We did what we needed to do offensively to put runs up on the board. With those runs our pitchers were able to gain confidence and pitch the way that we have been talking about in an attacking fashion and not afraid to let them put the ball in play. There were a couple miscues defensively in both games, but we are improving each time that we step on our diamond and you can see the confidence growing in each girl's face. We are back on the diamond this Wednesday against Bismarck State College and need to carry the momentum gained from last weekend and yesterday into this matchup as well."
