The Lake Region State College Royals traveled to Gillette, Wyoming to take on Gillette College & #19 Casper College.
A slow first half from LRSC would doom the Royals in their first game against Gillette. Trailing 56-41 at the half, Lake Region would make a run and cut into the Pronghorn lead. However, the defecit proved to be too much and they would run out of gas before falling 100-89 to the Pronghorns. Steven Rwahwire would lead the Royals with 23 points, Dion Ford would add 16 points 7 rebounds and Eli Campbell would stuff the stats with 15 points 6 rebounds and 5 assists.
After playing Gillette at 730pm the night before, it was a quick turnaround to take on #19 Casper at 1pm the following day. LRSC was up for the challenge but again a big first half would prove to be the Royals undoing. Casper would light up the scoreboard on their way to a 62-40 first half lead. Lake Region would keep battling but it would prove to no be enough. The final 109-80 in favor of Casper. Dion Ford would score 19 points and 11 rebounds for LRSC. Steven Rwahwire would add 16 points and 4 rebounds.
Head Coach Jared Marshall said after the road trip, "I don't think the scores really reflect how well we played this weekend. Gillette we were right there the second half and had a couple opportunities to take the lead. We just couldn't finish the comeback. Our team outscored them and out played them in the second, if we would have come out with that same energy we had in the 2nd to start the 1st it could have been a different game. As for Casper, that was a quick turnaround for us. We expended a lot of energy trying to make the comeback against Gillette. Our guys were gassed but we played hard the whole game. They just shot the ball extremely well. I was proud of how tough our guys played and they never quit."
One more tough week for the Royals as they play 3 games in 4 days before heading into break. A rescheduled Bryant and Stratton game at home Wednesday night at 630pm. They then hit the road to play Ellsworth on Friday and then a team to be announced on Saturday.
