The Lake Region State College Royals basketball team would put their 19-11 record and their season on the line against Dawson Community College Buccaneers in the Region XIII Semi Finals. LRSC would travel to Wahpeton as the 3 seed, with Dawson being the 2 seed for the game. The two teams had split their regular season games against each other.
The game turned out to be a hard fought physical one. Neither team was willing to give an inch, the referee's content to let the two teams battle it out on the floor to decide the winner. The Royals got out of the gate to take an early 20-9 lead. Dawson would not sit by, as they would make a run of their own to cut into the lead trailing LRSC 39-34 at the half. The second half saw more of the same as the game would continue to be chippy. With 6 minutes to go, the score was tied at 66. DCC would make more plays down the stretch to win 76-72 over LRSC.
With the loss, Lake Region State's season would end at 19-12. Head Coach Jared Marshall said, "This was a tough year for us. We had very high expectations coming into it. This team had to overcome a lot of adversity this season. We continued to battle and play hard every night. I want to thank these sophomores, as they were my first full recruiting class that I brought in. I am proud of this team and all we accomplished this season."
