The Lake Region State College Royals Basketball team hosted Dawson Community College Buccaneers in a MonDak Conference game. The Royals came into the game with a 13-7 (1-1) record and the Bucs were 14-5 (1-1).
In the first half of the game, the Royals turned in one of their finest defensive performances in a half all season. Limiting the Buccaneers to 28 first half points, with the Royals leading 39-28. Coming out of the break Dawson would start quick opening up with a 22-6 run that would give them the lead. The Royals however would weather the storm. Big plays by Jordan Bolton down the stretch 26 points and Drew Thielges who would again provide instant offense off the bench for the Royals. He poured in 5 threes on his way to 21 points. This time no late game heroics would be needed, as LRSC would make their FT's down the stretch to put the game away, the final of 84-78. The Royals would hold the Bucs to 28% from 3 and turn them over 14 times on their way to victory.
Head Coach Jared Marshall would say after the win, "Another exciting game that went down to the wire for our guys. I am happy with the way we finished this one. We did a great job of getting stops and making our FT's at the end to seal it. Our defense in the first half was some of the best we have played all year. We came out of the locker room a little too relaxed but we got stops when it mattered. As a team, we did a much better job sharing the basketball with 22 assists on only 7 TO's. That was an emphasis this week and the guys answered."
With the win the Royals move to 14-7 (2-1) and have NDSCS home Wednesday night 8:30pm at the sportscenter.
