Royals MonDak Opener Goes Down to the Wire
The Lake Region State College Lady Royals basketball started MonDak Conference play on Sunday against Bismarck State College.
The Lake Region State College Royals basketball started MonDak Conference play on Sunday against Bismarck State College. LRSC came into the game with a 12-6 record while BSC was sporting a 6-9 record.
The Royals would need to bring the effort defensively as Bismarck State came in scoring 97 points per game. Lake Region would get off to a slow shooting start making only 3 of their 22 3's in the first half. BSC on the other hand would make 6 first half threes to take a 47-39 lead. The Royals would come out of the half with a purpose getting stops on the first 5 possessions to take back the lead after a 25-7 run. With 5 minutes to go LRSC had a 9-point advantage. The Royals could not hold the lead down the stretch. LRSC missed 2 front ends of 1 and 1s and only made 1 of 2 Free Throws when down 2 with under a minute to go. They would only make 8 of 16 FT's for the game. BSC would score with 5 seconds to go to take a 3-point lead. The Royals try at the buzzer would not go. The final Bismarck State 92 Lake Region State 89.
Head Coach Jared Marshall said, "We were unable to close out the game today. We worked so hard to get the lead back but we could not keep it. I was proud of the way we came out of the locker room. Our energy and effort was a lot better throughout the game. We will learn from this and get better."
The Royals fall to 12-7 (0-1 MonDak) and will be back in action Thursday night 7:30pm vs. Williston State College.
