The Lake Region State College Men's Basketball team traveled to Wahpeton, ND this past weekend to take on Concordia JV Cobbers and Leech Lake Community College Lakers. The Royals entered the weekend 9-3 on the season.
The first game for LRSC would be against Concordia JV. In the previous matchup, the Royals would have to survive a barrage of threes from the Cobbers to get the win. This time Lake Region was ready and limited Concordia to 8 total three pointers in their win. After a slow start offensively for the Royals they found themselves leading by 5 at half. It took a big second half from Alex Weston, 18 points and Lamarr Wood 18 points 8 rebounds for LRSC to pull away and win 79-66.
The second game the Royals were matched up against Leech Lake Community College. LRSC would start the night off slow, struggling to get things going offensively. With 7 minutes to go in the half, Alex Weston would take over, he would score all 18 of his points in the first half. LRSC would take advantage of its size in the paint with Harvey Barr scoring 16 points, Lamarr Wood 10 points and Derrick Laudenbach 9 points. The Lakers could not answer. The final LRSC 98 Leech Lake 49.
Head Coach Jared Marshall said, "I was really happy with the way we guarded this weekend. After struggling to guard Concordia's sets the first time, we did much better this time around. We then responded to that by holding Leech Lake to 10% from 3 and 23% from the field. We have 3 more games coming up this week before Christmas break. As a team, we need to stay locked in and bring the energy each night."
The Royals are now 11-3 overall on the year. This Wednesday they will travel to Jamestown to take on Jamestown JV at 5pm. Then they head out to Norfolk, NE for the final two games of the year. They will play Northeast CC 7pm Friday night and Southwestern CC 1pm on Saturday.
