This past weekend the Lake Region State College Royals men's basketball team played host to Concordia JV and Jamestown JV.
First up for the Royals was the Concordia JV Cobbers on Friday night. Concordia came out and stunned the Royals right out of the gate. They jumped out to a 16-3 lead on the home team forcing a timeout. The Royals would re-group and go on a run of their own taking back the lead heading into half 39-38. LRSC would have to withstand a three-point barrage from Concordia in the second half. The Cobbers would make 11 3's in the second half and 17 throughout the game to stay within striking distance. However, it seemed as though every time Concordia would get close to taking the lead Cedric Boone would answer with a big shot of his own. He would pour in 48 points for a Royals team that needed every single one of them. He also had 6 steals on the game, none bigger than the 2 he had with 2 minutes remaining and the score tied. Those two and a steal from Jordan Lynn helped the Royals finish off the Cobbers with a 6-2 run and win the game 89-85. Jordan Lynn would chip in 11 points and have 7 assists in the win for the Royals.
Sunday afternoon the Royals would take on Jamestown JV. This time the Royals came out with the hot start. They would jump out to a 31-10 lead over the Jimmies to start the game. A shooting slump by the home team aided the Jamestown comeback, as they would cut the Royals lead 40-32 at half. In the second half, the Royals were able to keep the Jimmies at bay despite their cold shooting night from the field, shooting 23% from 3. Five Royals would get into double figures led by Alex Weston's 17 points and 8 rebounds to help get the win for LRSC. The final, 80-66 over Jamestown. Cedric Boone had a double double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Jordan Lynn filled up the stat column with 11 points, 8 rebounds 1 assist and 5 steals. Harvey Barr had 12 points and 7 rebounds.
Head Coach Jared Marshall said, "We got out of the weekend with 2 wins, which I was very happy with. We still are not playing our best basketball yet which is fine. We need to be playing it come February and March not here in November. We are still trying to find ourselves and define roles but it has been a good thing overall. Cedric's 48 points was an unreal performance Saturday night. The kid can really play. It was great seeing us go from that to 5 different guys get double figures and 10 guys score in Saturdays game. Just shows how versatile we can be as a team. We have a tough week coming up; I am excited to see how we play."
The Royals are now 7-1 on the season. The Royals have a big week ahead of them. They will travel to Wyoming to play Sheridan on Wednesday night, #19 Gillette on Friday and Miles on Saturday.
