The Lake Region State College Royals basketball team hosted Mayville State JV on Wednesday night.
The Lake Region State College Royals basketball team hosted Mayville State JV on Wednesday night. The Royals, 4-1 on the year, were hoping to make quick work of the visiting team. LRSC didn't get the start they wanted when they only scored 5 points in the game's opening 3 minutes. Then in the middle of the first with the Royals holding a 10-point lead, they got hot. Sophomore guard Alex Weston scored all 9 of his points on 3 straight 3's, Drew Thielges then got in on the action adding 3 to his 18 total points on the night. Just like that, in less than 3 minutes the Royals 10-point lead turned into 22. Lake Region never looked back cruising to a 100-58 victory. Freshman Jordan Lynn continued his strong start to the year adding 15 points, Sophomore big man James Streeter just missed a double double with 11 points and 9 rebounds, Sophomore Nik Fassos added 10 points.
Head Coach Jared Marshall said, "This was a good team win tonight. We had a lot of different guys get involved and step up. I love seeing that. We are going to need that throughout the year if we are going to be a successful team. We hit all the goals we like to for the game, make more free throws then they attempt, win the rebounding battle and more assists then turnovers. Those are all big keys to us winning."
The Royals made 17 free throws to Mayville's 14 attempts, they out rebounded them 52-36 and had 25 assists on only 11 turnovers. With the win LRSC moves to 5-1 on the season. They will be back in action this weekend matched up against Concordia JV 7pm on Saturday and against Jamestown JV 4pm on Sunday.
