Royals go 1-1 on Day 1 of Mon-Dak Conference Baseball Tournament
The Lake Region State College Royals baseball team went 1 and 1 on the opening day of the Mon-Dak Conference baseball tournament.
Game 1 of the NJCAA Mon-Dak Conference baseball tournament had the host team #4 Lake Region State College vs. #5 Dakota College at Bottineau. The first 3 innings saw both sides remain scoreless while stranding a few runners on base. DCB busted open the tie scoring 4 runs in the top of the 3rd which was aided by an LRSC error. The Jacks added to their lead with a homerun in the 4th to stretch the lead to 5-1 but that would be the last runs they got. It was all Lake Region after that. The Royals continued to chip away at the DCB lead until the bottom of the 6th when they used a 6 run inning to take a 10-5 lead. Cesar Bernal ended it in the bottom of the 7th with a 2 run homer bringing the 8 run rule after 7 into play. The final LRSC 13 DCB 5.
Game 3 of the NJCAA Mon-Dak baseball tournament was between #1 Williston State and #4 Lake Region State College. Lake Region State got a run across the plate early in this one but could never do it again. WSC pitcher Jesse O'Connell pitched a 2 hit complete game and was in the groove the whole time. The lone Royals run was not earned. The Teton defense made play after play and shut down the Royals. While the offense for the Tetons racked up hit after hit and continued to drive guys in. The Tetons blew the game open in the 4th inning putting 5 runs on the board. They added 1 in the 5th, 1 in the 6th, and finished it out in the 7th adding 2 runs to end the game, 9-1 in favor of Williston.
The Royals are back in action today, May 7th, 2016 and will take on Bismarck State College at 1:30pm in an elimination game.
