The Lake Region State College baseball team lost two home games to Jamestown JV on Thursday, 13-7 and 14-3.
Game 1
The right field fence at Legion Field in Roosevelt Park has been friendly as of late for batters. For pitchers, not so much.
In LRSC's 13-7 loss in Game 1, the Jimmies scored five runs via two homers. Jamestown was able to spread out its scoring in the win.
The Royals tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the second when Lance Anderson collected an RBI.
Jamestown scored three runs in the third, then four runs in the fourth.
LRSC, meanwhile, scored a run in the third, two in the fourth and two more in the fifth to make the deficit 8-6.
Jacob Zach sent a solo shot over the right field fence in the fifth inning to highlight the LRSC scoring.
But the Jimmies put four more on the board in the sixth to take control of the game en route to the 13-7 win after both teams scored in the seventh.
Game 2
After battling back to tie a game in which they fell behind 3-0 early, the Royals were unable to stop Jamestown JV's offensive onslaught, losing 14-3.
With the game tied 3-3 in the fourth inning, Jamestown took advantage of a couple LRSC errors to go ahead 5-3. In a bizarre play, Jamestown was caught attempting to steal home with the bases loaded and no outs, resulting in an out.
Though it appeared that Jamestown may have shot itself in the foot, a three-run homer took the edge off of the baserunning gaffe.
A solo home run followed, and the Jimmies found themselves up 9-3.
"They hit the ball well, so not much you can really do about it," Royals head coach Kyal Williams said. "They seemed to find the gaps."
Jamestown added a run in their half of the fifth inning to make the game 10-3 and were able to hold the Royals scoreless.
The Jimmies piled on four more runs in the top of the sixth to make the game 14-3, and the 10-run rule was called after the Royals were unable to score in the bottom of the sixth.
Despite the lopsided loss, Williams has noticed improvements in his team's play.
"Each day we get better and better," Williams said.
The Royals host one more home game against Williston State College before the Mon-Dak Conference Tournament, which starts May 6 in Devils Lake.
"It's nice not to have to travel the last few weeks," Williams said. "It's tough on the guys, and at least now they can get a good night's sleep."
